In 1947 the Screen Extras Guild was formed. In 1982 and 1984 a merge with SAG was defeated when SEG did not have the power to negotiate for residuals.

SAG absorbed its membership.
Today, SAG does not recruit extras nor do they represent them in most of the United States including Georgia and Louisiana.
Motion Picture/Television/Streaming productions continue to employ nonunion background talent on union productions without regulated working conditions, access to healthcare and retirement benefits.

Currently, Background players are being asked to be scanned for one day's pay ($187 in CA) whereas Producers have the right to use their image into Perpetuity throughout the Universe.
Nonunion Background Actors continue to be exploited, underpaid and remain without a Voice at the Table.
Union Solidarity is the way to negotiate a fair deal.
